Home / glossary / Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)

PBT has a very similar chemical structure and properties to PET, which is used, for example, to make returnable beverage bottles. Today, the material can be found in a wide range of applications, including power strips, household appliances such as coffee makers, egg stoves, toasters, hair dryers and vacuum cleaners. In the automotive sector in particular, the trend toward downsizing, i.e. making combustion engines smaller, but also the development toward autonomous and electric driving are creating a wide range of new areas of application for PBT. These include plugs for electric cars, but also radar sensor applications.
