Home / glossary / Polyvinyl chlorid (PVC)

The basic products for the production of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) are petroleum/natural gas and, above all, salt. In addition, the first PVC types based on renewable and circular oriented raw materials – bio-based or from chemical recycling – are also available. Various technical processes produce suspension, emulsion or compound PVC, which can be further processed either thermoplastically or as a paste. About two thirds of the PVC produced is processed into hard products such as window profiles and pipes, the remaining third into soft applications such as floor coverings, films or coated fabrics (Link: htts://www.vinyl-erleben.de).
